The farmers are given hands on training on improved agricultural practices. During the training period the farmers are exposes to the different field conditions. They also visited the Demonstrations fields and learn how to use the high yield variety seeds. Some farmers are also supplied with grafted fruit bearing trees and high yield seeds. The Samiti is promoting Palua & Turmeric cultivation by using organic manure in Koraput and Laxmipur Block of Koraput district.

The Sarvodaya Samiti is running two Khadi production center and three weaving centers. Yarn is produced from the cotton sliver on M.N.C. charakhas at Dharamgarh and weaving center at Jeypore and Dharmagarh.We have also a Silk production centre at Village Sagarpalli of Sonepur district. The Samiti is also running Khadi Bhandars (shops) in Burja, Koraput, Jeypore of Koraput district, Dabugoan in Nabarangapur district and Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district for sales of Khadi and village Industries products. The Samiti has also sales Khadi, Silk and V.I products in whole sales within and outside state of Orissa.

As the cotton sliver is not available in our state, we have procured it from Central Sliver Plant of KVIC, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. The details of production and sale of Khadi by the Samiti during this year is given below: -

Beekeeping :-

Koraput district being the main area of flora and forest, we have trained farmers to take up Beekeeping as one of the income generating activities. In village Balda of Nandapur Block and at Gandhi Nagar, Koraput we are running two Beekeeping training centers. During this year, we have trained 5 batch farmers of 25 trainees in each batch on Indica & mallifera beekeeping. Now we are trying to introduce Mellifera bee colony in the district for better honey production.

We have installed a Honey Processing Plant and Bottling Plant in Koraput for the benefit of the Beekeepers with the help of Khadi and Village Industries Commission under the UNDP Beekeeping programme. Now the farmers and Beekeeper can process and bottle their honey before selling in the market. The quality as well as the demand for the processed honey has been increased in the market.

The Samiti has also started a Quality Control Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for the testing of honey, so that at the time of procurement and selling we can check the quality of honey. The Quality Control laboratory was sponsored by the KVIC under the UNDP Beekeeping development programme.

The Samiti has been helping the farmers/Beekeepers in processing & marketing of honey in Khadi Bhandars within and outside the state. The Samiti able to collect and sale honey after processing and packing are given below:-

Rural Industry Service Centre (RISC):-

The Samiti has taken up to set up a Rural Industry Service Centre at Gandhi Nagar, Koraput for the farmers of this locality. This is to provide service to the farmers cultivating Nizer seeds (oil seed) to extract oil from it for consumption purpose. This is just like a common facility centre for the farmers growing Nizer in Koraput. We have placed order for the machinery and the building is already constructed for the programme. The RISC is supported by the Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Bhubaneswar.


Turmeric Powder, Palua & Spices:-

Turmeric is locally cultivated by the tribal. The Samiti processed and packed the Turmeric, Palua & Spices through the Mahila Mandal and market it in Khadi Bhandars and other outlets. Under this programme we want to avoid the distress sale of the turmeric at a throwaway price and also to provide work to the SHGs formed by the Samiti. The Procurement and sale of the Turmeric powder & Palua is given in the above table.

The rural marketing programme has been taken up by the Samiti in the tribal areas to increase their buying and selling capacity. The tribal are also acquiring knowledge of weight, measures and market price. This is one of the programme of training for marketing. They also sale their surplus agricultural and forest products in these marketing center and purchase salt, Kerosene, match box and grocery items.

The Department of Civil Supplies, Government of Orissa has been pleased to grant license to the Samiti to sale Rice, Sugar, Kerosene and other essential commodities in the consumer stores of the Samiti under the Public Distribution System.

Vocational Training & Skill Upgradation of Tribal honey gatherers:-

The Sarvodaya Samiti has organized 14 nos of Vocational, Skill up gradation and capacity building of Tribal Honey Gatherers\92 for 350 beneficiaries during the year in Koraput, & Malkangiri districts of Orissa. In each batch 25 traditional tribal honey gatherers were trained by Master trainer for 4 days duration including theory & practical. The tribal honey gatherers\92 were given training on how to collect honey without destroying the bees from Jungle/Forest, so that they can get more honey from the same bees/colony. During the training they were formed into small groups of 5 persons and supplied with a modern Kit (Dress, Knife, Ladder, Steel Bucket, Steel Container, hand gloves etc) for their protection, safe collection & storage of Honey. This programme was supported by TRIFED, Regional Office, Bhubaneswar.


Enterprenuership Development Programme (EDP):-

The Sarvodaya Samiti has been recognized as accredited Training Centre for Prime Minister\92s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) by the Khadi & Village Industries, Govt. of India. KVIC is the Nodal Agency for the implementation of PMEGP in India. During the year 2008-09 we have given training to 26 beneficiaries of KVIC and 09 beneficiaries from DIC, Koraput and the beneficiaries are belong to Koraput, Rayagada & Gajapati districts of Orissa. The duration of the training programme was 12 days including a field visit to successful SSI.

The Samiti has formed and strengthening the Self Help groups in different villages for empowerment of the women and further improves their living condition by doing some sustainable income generation activities. The SHGs are formed by villagers mostly women and some cases men also formed the groups to cater their needs. The SHGs are linked to the banks for carrying out their day to day financial requirement without depending on the money lenders or middlemen. All the SHS given below have opened their passbook in the nearby Banks or Post Offices. They have started saving some money out of their income which is not in the tribal culture/habit.

Orphanage ( Residential ):-

The Samiti is running an Orphanage of 50 destitute children with the financial help from the C.D.& R.R Department, Government of Orissa, Bhubaneswar. Out of 50 children 25 children are staying in the Anna Saheb Sisu Sadan at Burja near Laximipur and 25 children are staying in Sisu Sadan Gandhi Nagar, Koraput. This is a residential hostel and the children are reading in the local schools. Two housemothers are appointed to take care of the children. The children are also given vocational training like spinning, weaving, crafts, carpentry, etc and on agriculture for their rehabilitation in future.


Child Labour School (Non-Residential):-

The Samiti has been running three child labour school in Dharamgarh Block of Kalahandi district of Orissa with the financial support from NCLP, Kalahandi. The objective of the Child Labour School is to bring the children to mainstream from the workplace to school. The three child Labour Schools are running in the Villages namely Chillipa, Khairipadar & Beheraguda and in each child labour school 50 students are enrolled. The Samiti has appointed qualified & trained Teachers and other staffs for smooth running of the schools. In these schools the children are given education from Class-I to V standard and free mid day meals. The children are also trained in vocational training for the future employment. The parents of the children are provided with an incentive of Rs. 100/- per month.

Creche:-

The Samiti has been running 35 cr\E8che centers in Laxmipur and Koraput block of the Koraput, Dabugoan of Nabarangapur & Dharamgarh of Kalahandi districts of Orissa in collaboration with Bharatiya Adimjati Sevak Sangh, New Delhi and supported by CSWB, New Delhi & Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India. Children from age group of 0 to 5 are admitted in these schools and they are provided with nutritious food. The Balsevikas of the Creche centers are taking care of these children, the objective of these centre is to keep the children in the school when the parents are going for work. In each cr\E8che centre 25 children are admitted and during this year 875 children are enrolled in 16 creche centre.

Short Stay Home (Residential):-

The Samiti is running a Short Stay Home for the destitute women at Dharamgarh in the Kalahandi district of Orissa for 30 such women in collaboration with Bharatiya Adimjati Sevak Sangh, New Delhi and financial support from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The needy women or destitute women can stay in this home for a period of 3 years with her children. The inmates are given different vocational training for sustainable income generation for their rehabilitation. During their stay in the Home they are given counseling, health care and necessary legal support to rehabilitate them.

Educational Complex ( Residential ):-

The Samiti is running an Educational Complex for 150 ST girl child at Gandhi Nagar, Koraput with the support from Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. This is a residential school from class I to 5th class, only the Scheduled Tribe girls are admitted in this school. The objective of the schools is to improve the education and literacy rate among the female of the district. The Parents of the students are paid Rs 50/- per month as incentive to encourage to send their girls to the schools. During the year 2008-2009, girls are admitted in Class \96I- 30, Class-II-30, Class-III-30, Class-IV-30, Class-V-30. The total strength of the Complex during the year was 150. This year 30 students were passed out of the school from Class V and they are admitted in Model school and Kanyashrams for further studies. The students are given vocational training like tailoring, leaf-cup making and spinning. The Educational Complex is also recognised by the D.I of Schools of Koraput.


Awareness on Domestic Voilence and Compulsory Registration of Marriages Act :-

The Samiti has taken up awareness programme on Domestic Violence and Compulsory Registration of Marriages Act in the 3 G.P of Dharamgarh & Golamunda Block of Kalahandi district. We are covering 13 villages of 3 G.Ps and promoting violence free life of women in thses rural areas. This programme is running in collaboration with SWADHIKAR FORUM and supported by OXFAM, India.

The Sarvodaya Samiti has been recognised as one of the Voluntary Consumer Organisation by the Ministry of Civil Supplies, Government of India. The Samiti has printed some literature and leaflets in Oriya language on Consumer Protection, Awareness and distributed among the people and also kept in the district development exhibition of the Koraput district. The Samiti has applied for opening of a counseling center at Koraput for the benefit of the tribal and other people of this area.


The Sarvodaya Samiti has been promoting on a lifestyle free from alcohol and other drugs in the state of Odisha and a member of Indian Temperance Youth Federation (ITYF). The Samiti is working with school children and community for awareness, prevention, reduction of substance use, education, communication, training, public awareness and their rehabilitation. At present about 260 members involved in the temperance activities, this divided into 33 groups. The members are undertaken a pledge to lead a life free from the use of alcohol and other drugs and also encourage others to lead the same life style. The Samiti is working in the principles and aims and objectives of IOGT and ITYF.
